DARK ACT: A Slap in the Face
Food and Water Watcj
President Obama just signed Monsanto's Dream Bill to ban state GMO labeling laws.
This is a slap in the face to all those of us who have been fighting so hard for transparency, since this bill will not result in any meaningful labeling of most genetically engineered ingredients.
Monsanto and their cronies spent over $100 million to defeat genetically engineered food labeling laws. The system and the power is stacked against us, but we're more determined than ever to fight back against Monsanto's attempts to take over our food system.
We're not giving up, and we hope you won't either.
Can you chip in to launch the next phase of our campaign to stop a Monsanto takeover?
Over the last year, with your support, we held back the biggest corporate agribusinesses like Monsanto, Dow, DuPont, Pepsi, Nestlé and others to allow the Vermont law to go into effect on July 1st. Thank you for all of your letters, calls, deliveries, conversations and actions fighting for your right to know what's in your food.
Although this federal bill is a major setback for our movement, there's so much more we must keep working on.
Here are our next steps:
- Exploring all legal avenues for overturning Monsanto's Dream Bill.
- Creating accountability in the rulemaking process this new bill outlines at the USDA.
- Pushing a bill in the next Congress for the clear mandatory on-package GMO labeling you demand.
- Fixing the broken regulatory process at the FDA, USDA and EPA that rubber stamps GMO foods and fighting the mega-mergers between Monsanto, Bayer, Dow, DuPont, Syngenta and ChemChina that threaten our food.
- Mobilizing a powerful movement that is ready to hold our elected officials and our government agencies accountable for protecting our health and the environment.
We're realistic, but hopeful. We know these victories will take time, which is why we need the dedicated support of our Food & Water Watch supporters like you to provide the ongoing resources it takes to fight back against Monsanto and their cronies.
Can you chip in to fight for the healthy and sustainable food system we all want?
Thanks for all you do!
