Vitamin Power
By William Thomas
If you aren’t, consider this comment from Dr. Mercola at mercola.com: "We can solve well over 90% of the all chronic diseases with simple, inexpensive natural therapies."
Health basically depends on proper nutrition—a subject hardly mentioned in medical schools. Every second, each of our cells require 59 nutrients; 32 essential vitamins, 22 minerals.
Unfortunately, nutrient hybrid grains and veggies grown in soils leached of essential minerals by chemical warfare-derived nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers no longer provide the nutrients needed for healthy metabolism. Pesticides, food processing and frying further degrade the nutritional value of food “products”.
Stress, caffeine, alcohol, drugs and “junk foods” actually leach vitamins and minerals from the body.
Even microscopic deficiencies can hamper brain function, reduce energy and open cells to dis-ease. A 1971-2 Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 28,000 Americans aged 1 to 74, found that one in two women lacked sufficient calcium, nine in 10 tested insufficient in iron—and 60% of all people tested had symptoms of malnutrition.
But taking high-quality supplements isn’t enough. PhD Michael Colgan wrote the book on The New Nutrition. Vitamins and exercise go together, he insists. “If you have no time for exercise, you’d better reserve a lot of time for disease.
SELENIUM
Called the “Miracle Mineral”, selenium helps repair UV skin damage, and inhibits cancers. vitamin A is necessary for eyesight, body tissue growth, bone formation, and resistance to infection.
B VITAMINS
Long considered an “anti-stress” compound, the complex of B vitamins is also essential for cellular energy, testosterone and estrogen regulation—and the synthesis of DNA. The 10 State Nutritional Survey found one in three Americans deficient in vitamin B2.
VITAMIN A
Synonymous with Beta Carotene, this vitamin is necessary for eyesight, body tissue growth, bone formation, and resistance to infection. The 10 State survey found one in three women and one in four men were deficient in vitamin A.
VITAMIN C
This vitamin builds the collagen structure of bones, cartilage, muscles and blood vessels, promotes the healing of wounds and fractures, and helps maintain capillaries, bones and teeth The top 25% of daily vitamin C takers have one-half to one-third the rate of cancers of the esophagus and stomach than those in the bottom 25%. Men with high intakes of vitamin C have much lower incidence of stomach, colon and rectal cancers.
The late Nobel Prize laureate Linus Pauling considered Rath his successor. Pauling took 8,000 mg of vitamin C a day to help block the cancer enzymes that snip cells like scissors. Rath say his research lab “has established that all types of cancer cells studied can be blocked by taking advantage of this nutrient synergy.”
For Rath, the threat of cancer no longer carries a death verdict.
FOLIC ACID
The 10 State Survey found more than 50% of all men and women deficient in folic acid. —a proven risk factor for heart disease.
VITAMIN D
Essential for bone growth and proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus.
VITAMIN E
MD Jerome Cohen used to scorn supplements. Now this Professor of Internal Medicine at St. Louis University takes 400 IU of vitamin E to help protect his heart, after massive chemical trials involving 130,000 health care workers were reported in New England Journal of Medicine showing that high doses of vitamin E prevent heart attacks and strokes in both women and men.
The NEJM’s conservative editors strongly recommended vitamin E supplementation after finding that vitamin E and related flavanoids turn on healthy “good genes”—while preventing the activation of “bad genes” responsible for cancer. The American Heart Association calls this powerful antioxidant one of the top 10 health care developments of all time.
VITAMIN K
Found in sunlight, eggs, butter, and green leafy veg this vitamin is essential for blood clotting. People who habitually wear sunglasses risk chronic Vitamin K and D deficiency.
COENZYME Q10
Few doctors have heard of this critically important enzyme required for cellular energy production, disease immunity, and fine functioning of the heart, which beats 100,000 times a day. Occurring widely in foods. Co-Q10 levels decline in our bodies after age 35—as do levels of most other micronutrients.
OMEGA-3 AND OMEGA-6 FATTY ACIDS
Essential for health, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute reported in 1986 that Omega 3 can destroy breast, lung and prostate cancer cells—proving its “clinical usefulness in cancer treatment.”
ISOFLAVONES
Isoflavones found exclusively in soybeans, soy milk and tofu apparently attach to estrogen receptors in breast cells, preventing the hormone from entering the cell and triggering out of control cell growth.
THREE G’S
Five years ago, the top selling herbal supplements in the USA were the “Three Gs”: garlic, ginkgo biloba, and glucosamine. Garlic’s natural antibiotic properties have been known for more than 4,000 years. More than 1,800 scientific studies show garlic’s role in preventing or treating disease.
CHEAPER IS NOT BETTER
Not just any vitamins in any combination will work. When immunologist Dr. Myron Wentz fed popular, off-the-shelf vitamins and minerals to his cell cultures, the cells curled up and died.
Subjecting vitamin supplements commonly available in supermarkets and drugstores to rigorous laboratory tests, the world-renowned creator of the Epstein-Barr diagnostic test found that “bargain” supplements were no bargains at all.
After clinically testing 13 types of vitamin C, Wentz found every one to be derived from inferior ingredients. Lab tests further revealed that most over-the-counter supplements contain aluminum color coatings, and stearic acid binders that prevent tablets from releasing minerals and completely dissolving in the body.
Dr. Wentz also discovered that buying vitamins at random can lead to an excess of some nutrients and deficiencies in others. When purchased separately, vitamins lack the “co-factor” catalysts needed for full cellular absorption. Unless these micro-nutrients are present in the right proportions, vitamins and minerals pass right through the body.
CAUTION!
But anyone who is unwell is cautioned against popping handfuls of high-potency vitamins and minerals without checking with their personal physician first. The resulting rapid detoxification, Wentz and other researchers noted, can overload sick bodies with poisons suddenly released from fatty tissues or other storage sites. These symptoms are likely to initially grow even worse as the body cleanses itself.
Whether taking vitamins—or not—drinking at least eight glasses of pure, unchlorinated water every day is highly recommended. Think of it as topping off your cellular “battery fluid” in your body and brain. Water also helps flush toxins from the body as supplementary antioxidants (like grapeseed extract), minerals (like bluegreen algae) and herbs (like garlic and ginseng) go to work revitalizing you from the inside out.
If extreme discomfort occurs, daily supplement dosages should be cut back. But since these signs indicate that the therapy is working, patients in such situations are advised to consult with their physicians—and “stick with the program” if at all possible.
As for my personal bias, I became a big vitamin fan after serving on an environmental emergency response team in Kuwait’s stressful minefields and highly toxic oil fires. My immune system was so totally trashed, I was sick for 12 months on my return—before a strict diet and Wentz’s daily “Essentials” fully restored my energy and health. I’m still taking them! There are many excellent supplement programs to choose from online, which you will not find in any stores.
VITAMIN NAZIS
Sound good? What would you say if common vitamins, minerals and herbs become available only in uselessly low-dose prescriptions costing many times more than the supplements freely available now?
If the World Health Organization has its way, the same drastic restrictions already prohibiting over-the-counter supplement sales in much of the EU will be extended to Canada on behalf of the Pharmaceutical Cartel, who are losing “market share” to safe, natural alternatives—while killing as many as 160,000 North Americans with their costly drugs every year. [National Council for Patient Information and Education]
In an ongoing fight waged for more than a decade to reclassify natural nutrients found in food and the human body as “drugs”, Americans taking daily supplements could be re-targeted, as well. Check out the next issue of Convergence Weekly for updates on “The Vitamin Wars”—and what you can do to preserve your health freedom now.
