Legislative bills proposed in six states would grant nutrition monopoly to ADA

(NaturalNews) Have you ever wondered why much of the food served to patients in hospitals is highly processed and unhealthy? Or why school lunches at public schools are often loaded with refined flours, sugars, and other toxic ingredients and additives? The American Dietetic Association (ADA), a junk food- and drug industry-funded organization composed of "food and nutrition professionals" that hold heavy influence on the nation's dietary habits, is largely to blame -- and this group is now actively trying to legislate its way into having a complete nutrition monopoly in at least six U.S. states and counting.

The Alliance for Natural Health - USA (ANH-USA) says that proposed bills in California, New York, Indiana, New Jersey, Colorado, and West Virginia seek to restrict nutrition counseling and services only to ADA-registered dietitians. This means that qualified nutritionists, many of whom are far more educated than many RDs, would no longer be allowed to become licensed, which means they would no longer be able to provide nutrition counseling.

The ADA is largely funded and supported by junk food and drug companies

According to internal ADA documents obtained by Really Eat Right!, the ADA's goal with pushing the restrictive new legislation has nothing to do with protecting the interests of consumers and patients, but rather with boosting its own profits by eliminating competition. You see, many patients today would rather seek out the services of someone who has been trained in real nutritional therapies rather than someone trained in faux nutritional therapies inspired by Big Pharma (http://www.reallyeatright.org/).

The ADA, of course, holds many egregious positions on health that are passed on to it by its corporate sponsors, which include the Coca-Cola Company, GlaxoSmithKline, PepsiCo, Hershey's, and the National Dairy Council, to name a few. These corporate lobbyists are responsible for birthing such gems as the ADA's position that refined sugars and artificial flavors and colorings are perfectly safe for children (http://www.reallyeatright.org/ada-coke).

And according to documents released by the independent, non-profit group ProPublica, the ADA accepts at least $1 million a year from pharmaceutical companies, who are often allowed to market their products at ADA events and meetings. Many junk food companies also make hefty donations to the ADA as well, and also produce so-called "educational" materials that are used to indoctrinate ADA dietitians into believing pseudo-nutritional lies about health.

AB 575 in California; HB 1060 in Colorado; HB 1187 in Indiana; S 833 in New Jersey; A 5666 in New York; and HB 4045 in West Virginia all threaten to eliminate individuals' access to the nutritional therapies of their choice, and instead summon them nutritional advice from the likes of Merck & Co., creator of the Gardasil vaccine, and the Coca-Cola Company, whose high fructose corn syrup-laden beverages are largely responsible for today's epidemic of obesity and heart disease.
