Political Theater
By Victor Thorn
Look at it this way: if you owned both the New York Yankees and the New York Mets and they were playing each other in the World Series, would you really care who won? Of course not. In this light, the biggest factor facing those atop the control pyramid is who will ultimately be "selected" to occupy the Oval Office.
The main purveyors of this vast magic show are, of course, the mainstream media. They perpetuate it with daily doses of phony polls, partisan pundits who blatantly divide us, cover-up newscasters, and blathering talk radio show hosts. The end result is that the majority of people still believe that democracy is alive-and-well in America, when in reality it was removed from our hands decades ago.
Luckily, comedian and Daily Show host Jon Stewart recently blew a hole in this facade during an appearance on Crossfire by telling the hosts that their partisan, argumentative show was nothing more than "political theater," and that "you have a responsibility to the public discourse, and you fail miserably."
Naturally we need alot more to be said, but at least Stewart stuck his neck out; and for this we applaud him. Now to the rest of you in the mainstream media --- when are you going to start following suit?
