Cindy Sheehan Wows, Vows to Bring down Curtain on Catastrophic Conservatism that Defines Nancy Pelosi's Corporate-Coddling Politics. Decision, November 2008
Cindy Sheehan, is taking on the Goliath of corporate politics -- California's 8th District Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi , the Speaker of the House and the ranking Democrat who stood stalwart against any talk of impeachment against the most corrupt, most impotent, most undemocratic president in American history . Yes, it's Cindy vs. Pelosi, Bush and Cheney. It's Davida vs. Goliath. Decision time: November 2008
In response to skeptics who wonder if Cindy can beat Nancy, if she can trounce the House Goliath of corporate politics, Sheehan responds, " just read the bible to see who wins."
"In my view", says Sheehan " two interrelated factors largely explain how the Pelosi /Bush/Cheney team have managed to push the United States so far in surrendering its historic concepts of democracy and freedom. One has been the control of information; the other the manipulation of fear.
As a corollary, it's Sheehan's judgment that the reversal of this dangerous process depends on two initiatives: truth can trump propaganda and courage can overcome fear.
Sheehan has long disapproved of Pelosi's funding and support for the war and new nuclear weapons development, as well as the Congresswoman's vote for the bankruptcy bill, Cleverly, Nancy talks our talk, but she is actually an accomplice before, during, and after the fact of Bush's crimes. Is it any coincidence that she is supported by merchants of death, big banks, big real estate operators, and Wall Street? They trust her and back her because she is one of them.
Cindy speaks passionately of her vision of security through peace and the rule of law and of the need for the United States to sign on to the Kyoto Protocol to stem global warming. The issues closest to her political heart, and the issues that matter most to the 8th district, center on job creation and opposition to the 3 trillion dollar, $100,000-dollar-a-minute, $423 million-a-day Iraq war -- a waste of taxpayer resources which drains the 8th and all districts of vital funds for jobs, education, and health care.
The reason I am running," Sheehan begins, "is we need a fundamental change in the policies that affect millions of Americans." A fierce advocate for public campaign financing, Sheehan contends in no-nonsense terms: "As long as the special interests pay to elect the pols, we will have government of the special interests, by the special interests and for the special interests. one of the most dangerous things about this whole corrupt system is that people who are given special privileges inevitably come to regard them not as special but as natural and right, and will fight furiously if you try to take them away."
For too long, Nancy has kowtowed to the worst lobbies for war, and to BushCo. She has slipped through every spending request to make her "defense" donors richer. She has known about torture since 2002, and endorses it-along with the military commissions act and the rest of the totalitarian right-wing state Bush is building in our land. What a scam, what a crime that America's great progressive city, San Francisco, should be represented by such a tool of the big-money power elite. We need a change!"
When Cindy defeats this faux progressive, it will send a message to every phony in Congress. Help strike a blow for peace and against the police state, for universal health care and against war profiteering, for the people and against the plutocrats and malefactors of great wealth for whom Nancy is a silly servant.
Honest to the core, Sheehan prefers telling harsh truths, not comforting lies. "Rather than making us more secure, the Bush administration has made us less safe -- creating more terrorists by waging an immoral war, suspending due process, and demonstrating contempt for the Geneva Convention, for human life and dignity, and for the civil liberties of its own citizens." Pelosi voted to maintain secret prisons in Guantanamo, to lock people up indefinitely without ever charging them with a crime. She voted for the Iraq war, for the renewal of the Patriot Act, and for the development of new Bunker Buster nuclear weapons which blur the line between conventional and nuclear warfare. We don't need another Hiroshima. We don't need any more Pelosi.
California is losing jobs to outsourcing. While Pelosi has been preoccupied on the national scene with Bush's agenda, Iraq, the toxic Patriot Act, and illegal wiretapping, jobs have been disappearing under her watch right here in her district. Her occupation should clearly tend to job-keeping here within her own district. Look homeward, Pelosi.
As the situation in Iraq worsens and an attack on Iran seems imminent supporting ProPeace Candidates is more important now more than ever. Message from Cindy:
While mired in two occupations that have stretched our military past the breaking point and have been responsible for so much death, destruction and heartache, it ominously appears that BushCo are preparing for another attack, this time on Iran.
The other day, the AP quoted Vice-President, Dick Cheney as saying that Iran was seeking, "weapons grade uranium." Where have we heard this before?
General Petraeus blames the recent attacks on the Green Zone in Baghdad on Iran and all this after the last sane military man in the region, Admiral William Fallon was fired for questioning the administration's policies.
We know that Dick "So" Cheney does not care about humanity or the will of the American public who want our troops to be withdrawn from Iraq and we know that Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi refuses to do her Constitutionally mandated duty to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney.
The stakes are so high now. Another misplaced, illegal and immoral attack on Iran will mire our country deeper into debt and stretch our military to the point of complete ruination as well as causing more innocent people to lose their lives for profit and imperial greed.
Cindy Sheehan is a tough, outraged and resilient spirit that knows we have been delivered a great and precious legacy, you and I - "government of, by and for the people" - and, by God we're going to pass it on.
Cindy Sheehan's office & Campaign Headquarters are located at 1260 Mission Street, San Francisco 94103. The office has been open since October 15th, 2007 - but our official opening was December 8th, 2007.
Cindy has already begun to collect endorsements, the most notable one is Matt Gonzalez from the Green Party. Matt is a former member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He ran for S.F. Mayor against Gavin Newsome and only lost by a very narrow margin. Matt is currently Ralph Nader's running mate as his Vice President in the '08 Presidential race.
