Trump Thrilled as Happy Firefighters Stage Massive Salute as His Plane Leaves for DC
Most likely due to his being characterized as the “law and order candidate,” President-elect Donald Trump received tremendous support in the 2016 election from first responders like police officers and firefighters.
This support was on full display Thursday morning as Trump was preparing to leave New York’s La Guardia airport to head to D.C. for meetings with President Barack Obama and congressional leaders on Capitol Hill.
According to The Gateway Pundit, as Trump’s plane taxied its way towards the runway, it first had to travel underneath an arch of cascading water plumes shot into the air by a pair of Port Authority fire trucks. Other firefighters and airport personnel could be seen on the ground waving at the plane as it passed.
The time-honored tradition of a water cannon salute is generally used for ceremonial purposes and is intended to resemble a wedding arch or saber arch that a newly-married couple and accompanying bridal party would walk under.

Historically the salute has been used at airports to mark the retirement of senior pilots and air traffic controllers, as well as the first and last flights of certain airlines or aircraft.
The salute can also be seen at times on the water as fireboats use their water cannons to mark the retirement of senior officers, the commissioning or decommissioning of warships and cruise ships, along with the visiting of foreign dignitaries and other ceremonial instances.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence also received a similar salute as his own plane followed Trump’s to D.C. for the high-level meetings intended to get the presidential transition period underway.
