Whether you love him or hate him, you can’t help but hear about Donald Trump in the news.

“You’ve called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs.’”

“Don Voyage. Trump is toast!”

“Trump is Trump.”

“I think he is, in many ways, impervious to facts.”

“And instead all of our time is spent discussing this rodeo clown.”

Now, a long-forgotten story about Trump is making the rounds on social media, and it’s causing a lot of people to give him a second look.

In 1988, Trump flew a young child with a rare illness from L.A. to New York – at substantial cost to himself – after airlines refused to fly the child.

Three-year-old Andrew Ten was struggling with a breathing condition that doctors had not been able to identify.

The Tens decided to fly to New York to see if any doctors there could help.

One problem: Commercial airlines wouldn’t let Andrew fly because of the large amount of medical equipment needed to keep him alive during the flight.

Running out of ideas, the family decided to try a one-in-a-million shot: they called Donald Trump.

According to Harold Ten, Andrew’s father, Trump didn’t hesitate to help:

Mr. Trump did not hesitate when we called him up. He said, “Yes, I’ll send my plane out.”

– Harold Ten

Donald Trump is a miracle, just a miracle.

– Grandmother Feigy Ten

Here at Western Journalism, we did some calculations and estimated that this flight cost Trump at least $90,000 dollars. Not exactly a small gesture of support.

A Boeing 727 costs around $10,000 an hour to fly. At a normal cruising speed of 540 mph, it would take 9 hours to fly from New York to L.A. and then back to New York.

Predictably, this story is generating a wide variety of responses on social media.

Some automatically called it fake, while others claimed that, even if it did happen, it doesn’t matter:

Oops. Donald Trump is apparently a saint after all. He flew the sick child of a one-percenter to the hospital, uh, 27 years ago.

Others, however, think this shows something special about Trump’s character:

Trump: A man of action, not words.
