Rahm Emanuel’s latest scandal, just days before Chicago's election
Annie Weinberg, Democracy for America
Checking in with you from here on the ground in Chicago to support the field campaign for Chuy García, and I have to tell you, I'm blown away by what I've seen.
There's a big groundswell of support for Chuy García. People are inspired by his pledge to fight for working families. And they're angry at the way Rahm Emanuel has neglected public safety and closed neighborhood schools in order to keep his billionaire donors happy.
This looks like a close election -- a lot closer than Rahm Emanuel is expecting. Based on the initial numbers we've seen from the field, it's possible that the election could come down to just a few thousand votes.
As a DFA member you know that the only thing that beats the billionaires is people power and grassroots mobilization. We have a great field program here in Chicago, but we need more people to help get out the vote on Tuesday, April 7. You can do that from home, anywhere in the country, through our Calls for Chicago tool.
Just one phone call from you can convince a voter to cast their ballot for Chuy García. Will you help?
Rahm Emanuel is scared, and now he's hiding. He just announced that he's refusing to release more than 1,600 emails between himself and his wealthy super-donor -- a hedge fund manager named Michael Sacks who has given more than $1 million to Rahm's campaign -- until after the election.
What could be in those emails that's so shady, unpopular or embarrassing that Rahm would violate the law to hide them? We don't know what's in those secret emails, but to many people here in Chicago it's just another example of how Rahm sides with the wealthy while ignoring the needs of the people.
Chicago residents aren't shy about telling me why they want to get rid of Rahm Emanuel. He closed over 50 schools. He gives millions in secret, no-bid city contracts away to his own billionaire campaign donors, and then pays for it by closing mental health clinics.
Chicago is ready to fire Rahm Emanuel and replace him with a progressive leader, Chuy García. Election Day is just three days away -- now is the time to get out the vote. Will you join us?
YES, I can call Chicago voters and help defeat Rahm Emanuel.
NO, I can't volunteer, but I can chip in $3 or more now to help Chuy García beat Rahm.
Thank you for doing everything you can to win this Tuesday.
