Fred Thompson's America

Fellow Conservatives:

The battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party is taking place right now in Texas. The outcome of the U.S. Senate race in the Lone Star State has national implications that will impact the lives of every American.

Let me explain.

The mainstream media has been saying for months that the Tea Party movement is dead. The Beltway crowd is desperately hoping the 2010 earthquake of elections that sent a new group of rock-ribbed Republicans to Washington was a once-in-a lifetime event.

But something happened in early May that contradicted the media's anti-conservative narrative. Tea Party conservative Richard Mourdock defeated a 36-year incumbent U.S. Senator for the Republican nomination in Indiana. A week later, a little-known state senator defeated the Washington-backed candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska.

You could almost feel the panic washing over the Washington establishment. They put on their best face and peddled one excuse after the another, hoping to define these losses as isolated events that didn't represent a broader rejection of their moderate policies.

But then it happened again on May 29 in Texas. Tea Party conservative Ted Cruz surged in the final days of the campaign to force his establishment-backed opponent into a run-off election. This was a true David vs. Goliath victory that could only be explained as an outright rebuke of the Republican establishment.

Freedom is on the move because citizen patriots like you from all across the country are stepping up and supporting principled candidates for the United States Senate. Folks are making small contributions to candidates outside their home states. They understand that a vote in the U.S. Senate affects every American regardless of where they live. And even though they can't vote for these candidates, they can make their voices heard by supporting them financially.

Support Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate

The Senate race in Texas is ground zero in the fight for our freedoms. It pits a proven conservative — Ted Cruz — against a deal-making moderate — David Dewhurst.

During Dewhurst's tenure as Lt. Governor, spending in Texas increased by $72 billion, he never cut a single penny from the budget, and he praised funding from President Obama's failed stimulus program. To pay for it all, Dewhurst supported the creation of income tax in Texas that he tried to cleverly disguise as a "wage tax." It would have killed 40,000 jobs.

If that wasn't bad enough, Dewhurst's record on illegal immigration is one that should mobilize every American who cares about the rule of law. As the head of the state senate, Dewhurst killed a bill opposing in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, he killed a bill opposing sanctuary cities, and he has waffled on whether we should have a fence to protect our southern border.

This is not someone who should be elected to the U.S. Senate.

Fortunately, we have the opportunity to elect Ted Cruz, a true conservative.

National Review said Ted Cruz is an "extraordinary, and extraordinarily promising, candidate — one whom Republicans and conservatives should be excited about ... driven by ideals and principles ... he's a Reaganite. A bona fide Ronald Reagan conservative."

U.S. Senator Jim DeMint said Ted Cruz "has a deep appreciation for the U.S. Constitution and he's someone conservatives can count on to fight for the principles of freedom that make America great."

And former Governor Sarah Palin said his "conservative principles, passionate defense of our Constitution and our free market system come at a time when these cornerstones of our freedom and prosperity are under attack."

Support Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate

If Ted Cruz wins, two things will happen.

First, it will send a clear message that voters want conservative leadership in Washington. It will strike fear in the hearts of liberal Democrats and big-spending Republicans, and energize grassroots conservatives across the country.

Second, it will put a true fighter in the U.S. Senate who has the courage to stand up for conservative principles. In fact, Cruz said, "the reason I'm running is not merely to vote right. What we have a desperate need for is real leadership to stand up and defend free-market principles. And if I am not helping lead the fight, standing there with arrows in my torso, I will not be doing my job."

This is the kind of courage we desperately need in Washington today.

The July 31 primary run-off election in Texas is just over a month away. Now is the time for every American who loves freedom to support Ted Cruz by making a contribution to his campaign. It doesn't matter how much you donate, just that you give something.

David Dewhurst has spent over $10 million of his own money and he can spend a lot more. He feels entitled to this Senate seat and he's very upset that the grassroots in Texas have lined up behind Ted Cruz. We know he's going to spend millions more to try to buy this election. We can't let him get away with it.

Please make a contribution of $10, $25, $50, or even $2,500 to Ted Cruz's campaign today.

Note: The Senate Conservatives Fund will send 100% of your donation to the Ted Cruz campaign. Unlike many organizations, SCF raises money directly for candidates. When you donate to Ted Cruz through SCF, he not only gets the funding he needs to win, he also knows he has the support of conservatives all across the country.

Thank you for your time and for supporting the growing conservative movement in this country. When I look back at what we were able to achieve in the 2010 elections, helping elect Senators Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Ron Johnson, Pat Toomey, and Mike Lee, I'm optimistic about the future.

Together, we have already changed the makeup of the United States Senate and, this election, we are going to change it even more by packing it with another class of conservative leaders.

Thank you for your dedication to conservative principles and for considering what you can do to help restore America's greatness.

Respectfully,

Matt Hoskins
