Rooftop Farms
New York is a city notoriously short on space, but rooftop farming is on the rise. Individuals and restaurants are beginning to grow some of their own food in the only space available to them - their roofs.
While the practice is currently an environmental rather than a financial trend, meet "Bright Farm Systems" a company that specializes in providing rooftop farms to schools, non- profits and corporations.
They are banking on that the cost savings will soon be a real incentive, along with servicing consumers with a growing awareness of the importance of eating local. In this case, local means all the way upstairs -- on the roof!
